Staying Healthy
We do not have a national health care system in the United
States, so you may find that even your most routine medical needs are very
expensive compared to in your country.
For example, a physician’s fee for an office visit could range from $90
- $150. A visit to a specialist can
cost even more. Therefore, most people
in the United States purchase medical insurance to cover a major part of their
medical expenses.
F-1 visa students enrolled at
Georgia Perimeter College are required to purchase health insurance to be
protected from the cost of an unexpected illness or accident. Please be aware that the premium you pay
for health insurance covers only you as the enrolled Georgia Perimeter
College student. If you have a spouse
and/or children in the U.S. who are your dependents, please consider purchasing
health insurance for them separately.
Even if you have generally been
very healthy, it is wise to take special care of yourself while you are
here. Changes in diet, climate, the stress
of adjusting to a new environment, and the pressures of studying can make you
more tired leaving you more susceptible to illness.
Tips for taking care of yourself:
- Eat a
balanced diet
- Get
regular exercise
- Try
to get enough rest
- Make
a schedule to get your work done
- Get
involved in campus activities
- Talk
to someone if you feel lonely
Remember, we are here to assist
you and help you to have a meaningful and pleasant experience. We are glad that you are with us at Georgia
Perimeter College so do not hesitate to call on us if you ever have any
questions or concerns.
